In 1988 artistic director Frans Wolfkamp started The International Holland Music Sessions. Frans Wolfkamp studied choral conducting, piano and music education at the School of the Arts in Utrecht. He began his career in 1977 as Director of the Municipal Music School of Nieuwegein. In 1985 he was appointed Director of the Conservatory of Music at the Hogeschool Alkmaar. As a performing artist he has worked mainly as a choral conductor and has served as conductor of the Cathedral Choir of Utrecht and the Festival Chamber Choir. Frans Wolfkamp was formerly chairman of the Repertoire Informatiecentrum voor Muziek, Donemus and Opera SKON. In addition, he has been a member of various advisory committees in The Netherlands and abroad. He has worked as an independent consultant, primarily in The Netherlands but also in Japan and the United States, and has established several exchange programs with foreign countries. Frans Wolfkamp has represented Dutch music institutes and organizations at numerous international meetings and symposia, including the European Union for Music Schools, SUPREMUS, the International Music Council and the European Music Council of UNESCO. He has been invited as a jury member in Canada, Germany and Slovakia. He has done extensive research in The Netherlands and abroad and has published his findings concerning the position and future prospectives for young performing musicians.
In 2002 the baton of the artistic leadership of TIHMS was handed over to Jan Marisse Huizing.
