AUDITION AND APPLICATION, FOR WHOM
Applicants for active participation must be between 16 and 27 years of age in the period July 27 - August 17, 2008.
Active participation is available for those musicians who are selected in one of the following three categories:
- Those who receive a personal invitation from The International Holland Music Sessions artistic staff.
- Those who audition by submitting a video tape.
Applicants who are accepted in the program have the opportunity to participate for the full period of three weeks.
All applicants, with the exception of those who have received a personal invitation from The International Holland Music Sessions, must audition. The online application form is always required, also when you are invited.
AUDITION REQUIREMENTS
Video auditions
A program of at least 20 minutes, with at least two different styles.
FEES AND PAYMENT
Tuition fee active participants: EUR 800* per week.
* Covers tuition (including admission to all lessons, public master classes and concerts) as well as lunch and dinner from Monday till Saturday.
The tuition fee does actually not include the housing (bed and breakfast), but the housing for the particpants is free, as this is provided by the host families. They are friends of THIMS who volunteer their hospitality without any costs.
All payments to TIHMS should be made by bank transfer and in EUR (Euro) only.
Bank charges must be met by the applicant.
After June 15, 2008 the tuition fees are non-refundable.

ONLINE APPLICATION
For convenience and expediency we demand on-line applications via this website. To make an on-line application for TIHMS Summer Academy, please use the application form included in this Summer Academy section of the website. The application form can be accessed using the <Application Form> button. The page that appears provides some practical hints for you to fill in the form as well as procedures for printing out the form to send by mail.
A signed copy of the application form must also be mailed to TIHMS office before an acceptance is confirmed. This applies to all applicants except to those who do a live-audition. They may use the online application form and need to send the signed copy of the application form only after confirmation of admission to the Summer Academy program.
CATEGORY 1: PERSONAL INVITATION
The online application form as well as the mailed application form including your signature and the necessary documents must be received by TIHMS by April 1, 2008.
Your full payment of the tuition fee (EUR 800 per week) must be received by May 1, 2008, or within ten days after confirmation of acceptance.
CATEGORY 2: VIDEO AUDITION
The video tape or DVD, the online application form as well as the mailed application form including your signature and the necessary documents must be received by TIHMS by April 1, 2008.
Your full payment of the tuition fee (EUR 800 per week) must be received by May 1, 2008, or within ten days after confirmation of acceptance.
Applicants who audition by video tape, will receive a message of acceptance or non-acceptance not later than April 15, 2008.
The video tape must be a recent, unedited tape, VHS-PAL or VHS-SECAM format, of a live performance (between 30 and 40 minutes), either a studio recording or a concert recording.
Optional: If you happen to have a DVD-recording you are welcome to send us a DVD also, along with, or instead of, the video tape. (Please make sure the DVD-disc is 'finalized' to make it playable on other devices, and fully compatible.) Video tapes and/or DVD's will not be returned.
Note: If you applied in an early stage and are accepted to the Summer Academy, please check your sent application form for questions regarding the Summer Academy. You may need to send additional information you did not know at the time of application.
RECITAL PROGRAM
Applicants for active participation must enclose with their application a full 40-minute recital program for public performance during the Summer Academy. This recital program must consist of (at least) two different musical styles. This repertoire may not be changed after submission. However, the recital program may differ from the audition program.
Participants are encouraged to include in their program a solo piece (for piano, cello or violin) from a native composer, not longer than 8 minutes, and composed after 1970.
The recital program must include composers names and dates, full and exact titles including key signatures, opus numbers, movements and durations.
Concertos and concerto movements are not accepted.
BIOGRAPHY
Applicants must submit with their application a current biography in English (maximum 100 words). When your native language is Dutch, please include the biography in Dutch as well.
The recital program as well as the biography is requested in the application form. Please also refer to the practical notes about filling in the form which you can read in the page that appears after clicking <Application Form>.
PHOTOGRAPH
Applicants must send together with their application by mail a recent glossy color photograph to be used for publicity. This publicity may include use of the photo on concert programs and concert announcements as well as the website of The International Holland Music Sessions.
The color photograph must be 300 dots per inch and when printed, not too small. (Smaller resolutions - dots per inch - are accepted only when conversion to 300 dpi gives a still acceptable print-size.) The format must be high quality JPEG or TIFF.
IMPORTANT: A photographer can derive rights from publication of his original artwork, especially on the website, unless publication is agreed on. Therefore, please make certain that you obtain permission for publication of your photograph, as participants will be held responsible for any claims that might occur. See also Insurance and Liability on this page.
PROOF OF AGE
A proof of age (photocopy of birth certificate, passport, licence, etc.) must be sent together with the application form.
OPTIONAL CD-ROM
We encourage all applicants to add with their application a CD-ROM. We suggest that this CD-ROM contains:
Your photograph in high resolution quality.
Your photograph in thumbnail format (72 dpi, 150 pixels width, jpeg medium compression) for the website. (If you manage to do so.)
Biography and recital program saved in Word-format, PDF, or Rich Text format (RTF).
Please note that this CD-ROM is welcome, but optional. If you choose to send one, the prefered format is a data CD in hybrid format that can be read in both Windows and Macintosh. Thank you!
ACCOMMODATION
TIHMS has arranged that Host Families will provide bed and breakfast service for all participants. These Host Families provide these services to our participants free of charge.
In the tuition fee lunch and dinner (form Monday till Saturday) is included.
We have provided an accommodation list for guests, supporters etc. They will find these accommodation suggestions on the page <accommodation> in this Summer Academy section of the website.

INSURANCE AND LIABILITY
After June 15, 2008 the tuition fees are non-refundable.
The International Holland Music Sessions assumes no liability whatsoever for any damage, theft or injury which may occur during the Sessions.
Participants must make certain that their photographs are free of photographers artwork rights. When neglect leads to claims, the participant is held responsible for the financial consequences.
Participants are strongly advised to obtain an insurance policy which covers any financial loss in case of late withdrawal, illness, early departure, damage, theft, injury or other special circumstances. Please do not forget to bring insurance papers with you.
In the event of an unexpected cancellation of a faculty member, TIHMS will do all in its power to take care of a suitable replacement.
